State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has hired Andrew Benton as head of UK institutional business.

Benton joins SSGA from Baring Asset Management where he was head of sales, business development and international client services.

He replaces Mark McNulty who joined JLT Employee Benefits last month as head of investment solutions.

At SSGA, Benton (pictured) will become a senior managing director reporting to head of EMEA, Mike Karpik. He will be responsible for distribution across the asset manager’s UK institutional business, including defined benefit and defined contribution.

He will also assume responsibility for SSGA’s fiduciary and financial institutions as well as supervise client relationships and market contacts.

Before working at Barings, Benton was head of UK institutional sales for Schroder Investment Management and prior to that, held a variety of roles at RCM. He has also worked at Royal London Asset Management, SLC Asset Management and AMP Asset Management.

Karpik said: “We are very pleased Andrew has joined the team. His appointment recognises the commitment of SSGA to our UK institutional clients and our solutions that span across pensions, fiduciaries and financial institutions. Andrew has a wealth of experience that will be invaluable as we seek to deepen our relationships.”
