Former Investment Management Association (IMA) chief executive Richard Saunders is to join the board of Investec Asset Management.
Saunders, who joins as a non-executive director, left the IMA at the end of last year after more than a decade in charge, during which time he was instrumental in the creation of the IMA following a merger between the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds with the Fund Managers’ Association in February 2002.
Saunders’ earlier career was spent at the Treasury, with further roles at media group United News & Media and as a communications consultant. He also served as press secretary to the Norman Lamont when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and as head of the Economic Department at the British Embassy in Washington DC in the early 1990s.
Investec Asset Management chief executive Hendrik du Toit said: “I was privileged to have worked with Richard while he was on the IMA board and have the highest regard for his insights into the challenges facing our industry. We look forward to his participation on our board.”
