SAUL Trustee Company has appointed Sue Applegarth as chief executive, replacing Penny Green who is standing down from the role later this year.

Applegarth (pictured), who is currently chairman at Ensign Pensions Administration, will start her new role at the £1.9bn fund in November.

She joined Ensign (then MNPA) in 2001 and prior to that spent more than 20 years at Aon Consulting.

SAUL chairman Dennis Buckley said: “We are delighted to have appointed someone of Sue’s stature. Her experience in delivering high-quality pension services is substantial and will ensure SAUL’s members and employers continue to receive a responsive, caring and efficient service. Sue’s background in third-party administration also means that she’ll lead our team in delivering exceptional standards for clients of our successful administration company, STC Pension Management.”

Applegarth said: “This is a great time to be joining SAUL Trustee Company and I am delighted to have been appointed. There are some exciting challenges and opportunities ahead and I am very much looking forward to working with the trustee board, its advisers and the team at SAUL Trustee Company, to deliver the trustee board’s ambitions and plans for the fund and its members.”

Green is retiring at the end of 2014 after almost 17 years as SAUL’s chief executive.

She said: “I have known Sue for a long time and she is someone I have admired for many years. She will be an asset to SAUL and I know that I am handing over to someone who will build on the solid foundations I have laid to take the team forward to greater success. I can’t think of a better person to be my successor.”
