The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) is set to revamp its education strategy after appointing a new director of learning and education.
Ruth Palmer joins the body that supports and develops the experts running UK pension schemes after a 10-year stint at the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Palmer (pictured) will lead the PMI’s professional standards and qualifications teams. She will also spearhead a review of the body’s qualification offering as well as develop a wider education strategy.
The new head of learning and education was executive director for postgraduate training and standards, education, quality and research at the Royal College of General Practitioners. Her previous roles have included leading the standards, training and examinations areas at the Royal College of Surgeons.
Palmer brings experience in governance, introducing digital services and commercial implementation as well as addressing equality and diversity to the role.
PMI’s chief executive Gareth Tancred said Palmer’s experience and track record in developing professional training and standards makes her an excellent fit for the organisation.
“Learning and development remains one of our core values and Ruth’s appointment will help to further strengthen our focus in this area,” he added.
Palmer said she is committed to ongoing developments, quality improvements and innovative new services at PMI.
“In addition to constantly updating and developing all learning and qualifications areas I will have a major focus on introducing new approaches with significant benefits and support for examinations, candidates and members and also in many wider organisation areas,” she added.
