Legal & General has unveiled David Butcher as a trustee for its master trust.
Butcher brings almost 40 years of pension industry experience to the role having had stints as chief executive of Invesco Perpetual’s pensions business and a non-executive director of BlackRock Pensions.
He is currently chairman of the Optimum Health Clinic Foundation, a charity specialising in research into chronic fatigue syndrome or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
Legal & General Mastertrust chair Dermot Courtier said the appointment further strengthens the board.
“David is well-respected, highly experienced and brings with him a breadth of knowledge that will benefit members and employers. I am confident that he will contribute to the ongoing success of the L&G Mastertrust and its drive for ongoing excellence in governance, always ensuring value for money for members.”
Legal & General’s head of DC, Emma Douglas, also welcomed Butcher to the board: “With our Mastertrust growing in popularity against a background of increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, we’re keen to maintain our market leading position.”
The Legal & General Mastertrust currently serves more than 80 schemes, representing some 700,000 members. It had £4.5bn of assets under management in December 2017.
