The £40bn Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) has appointed Kathryn Graham in the newly created position of head of strategy co-ordination.

She joins USS from BT Pension Scheme Management where she was a director and head of special projects.

In her new role, which she begins on Monday, Graham (pictured) will manage the support and development of the scheme’s strategic asset allocation and head the team responsible for allocations to external managers.

She will also manage developments across investment requirements, operations and risk control and ensure appropriate governance for implementing the high-level delegations from the USS trustee.

Graham, who brings 20 years’ industry experience to the role, has also held positions with UBS/SBC Warburg and Progressive Alternative Investments. She is also a trustee of the Hedge Fund Standards Board and a member of the London Board of 100 Women in Hedge Funds.

USS chief investment officer Roger Gray said: “Kathryn Graham is a welcome addition to USS. We operate a unique scheme, managing the majority of the scheme’s £40bn of assets in-house.  Increasingly we are taking a whole scheme view to investment and risk management and through the development of this role we hope to achieve greater synergies amongst our various asset classes and managers to deliver the most effective investment strategy.”
