With wars raging in Europe and the Middle East and the citizens of more than 50 countries heading to the ballot box in national elections this year, it is fair to say that 2024 could be an eventful time for the markets.

In terms of the shocks investors could experience, there are obvious risks, those which are not so obvious and then there are events which are unlikely to happen, but if they do, will cause a major impact on asset valuations, events otherwise known as grey swans.

It looks like we could see a grey swan or two this year, so how can investors spot such an event before it occurs. Our cover story this month takes a look.

This edition also looks at why the Brics nations welcoming more nations into its club may not pose a threat to the G7 as hoped, while we also examine the rise of AI and how it impacts pension schemes’ sustainability plans.

We also take a closer look at how a fall in inflation could impact bonds, while the new head of investment at The People’s Pension discusses his plans for the asset owner.

We hope you enjoy the edition.
