The Transparency Taskforce (TTF) is auditing the Codes of Conduct in the financial services sector.
More than 50 professional bodies, trade associations and standards boards are falling under the organisation’s microscope.
The findings will be published next month (18 October), but initial research suggests that some sectors, such as banking, have significantly raised the bar on voluntary professional standards in recent years.
TTF chair Andy Agathangelou (pictured) said this review is about defining and disseminating best practice.
“Regulations in isolation are insufficient as the regulator can’t police every person every minute of the day,” he added. “Voluntary codes are key to supplementing the contribution of regulation in raising standards of professionalism.”
