RPMI Railpen has appointed Steve Mitchell as compliance and risk director as it continues to beef up its expertise.

Mitchell (pictured) is now responsible for making sure that the approach to compliance and risk management by Railpen’s investment arm remains robust.

He is the third new face to join the asset owner in less than a month. In March it appointed Matthew Howard as head of property asset management, while Leo George joined as head of sustainable ownership.

Mitchell brings two decades of financial services compliance experience with him to Railpen. He sharpened his expertise at organisations such as BNP Paribas, Lombard Odier and NatWest. Stints at the Financial Conduct Authority and the Association for Financial Markets in Europe also appear on his CV.

The new compliance and risk director reports to Julian Cripps, managing director of the investment business, who was promoted earlier this year. He said Mitchell’s appointment highlights Railpen’s ability to attract talent from across the asset management industry.

His appointment is timely. “As we continue to strengthen our internal investment capabilities, it is important that we are able to maintain – and build upon – our robust approach to both compliance and risk management,” Cripps added.

Mitchell said that this is a great time to join Railpen as its internal asset management capabilities continue to grow.
