Coats has appointed John Lovell as group pensions director.
The industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business said Lovell (pictured) will be responsible for overseeing its worldwide pension schemes as well as the two pension schemes of Coats’ investment holding company, the Guinness Peat Group (GPG) UK.
In the newly-created role, Lovell will also develop Coats’ pension strategy and work closely with the trustees of the various schemes to ensure its delivery.
He joins from J Sainsbury where he was head of pensions. Previous roles include director of UK pensions at building materials company Lafarge UK and UK pensions manager at National Grid. He has also worked at Grant Thornton, Italian insurance company Generali and Friends Life.
Coats chief financial officer Richard Howes said: “I am very pleased John has joined Coats. He has extensive experience of overseeing large pension schemes in the UK and internationally as well as the complex and changing regulation of the pensions sector. He will play an important role in the development and delivery of the pension strategy across the group.”
